I am coming out of a year of unparalleled transition. Nothing seems untouched. Relationships, circumstances, surroundings – everything changed. I held on for dear life to anything standing still. One morning on my way to work, I made the same stop I had made for 18 months: my favorite little coffee shop. I pranced in and made my usual order: “a banana nut bagel with plain cream cheese, please.” The server looked at me cheerfully and said, “We’re not carrying that kind anymore. Is there something else I can get you today?”
I stood stunned with my eyebrows pinned like two barrettes to my hairline. I must have been in shock for some time because the person behined me finally bumped me out of the way providing all I needed to burst into tears. As I walked out to the car, I looked up and inquired, “Could I have one thing around this place I can count on?!”
As I got in the car, I sensed the Father speak His Word to my heart. “Beth, I will never leave you nor will I ever forsake you.”
